Contextly Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 24, 2026
Your conversations can be deeply personal. Contextly is designed to remove direct identifiers it recognizes before analysis and to explain what happens to the information you share. This policy describes what Contextly processes, where it is stored, and how you can delete an analysis.
The short version
- Your original chat export is not uploaded.
- Contextly replaces certain identifiers it recognizes on your device before sending prepared messages for analysis.
- Contextly’s analysis service and AI provider process those prepared messages.
- Completed reports and baseline-matching data are stored both on Contextly’s servers and on your device, and synced to your private iCloud database.
- You can use Delete & Forget to remove a report and request deletion of its related server-side analysis data.
What happens to an imported conversation
When you choose a supported chat export, Contextly reads it on your device and prepares the messages for analysis. It replaces identifiers it recognizes, such as participant names you provide, email addresses, phone numbers, and recognized addresses.
Automated identifier replacement can miss information it does not recognize. Please review your export and avoid importing details you do not want processed.
The original export file is not uploaded. The prepared conversation is sent over an encrypted connection to Contextly’s analysis service. Contextly’s service uses AI processing to identify communication patterns and produce your report.
What Contextly stores
To show your reports and compare conversations with a saved baseline, Contextly stores analysis results on its servers. These can include:
- Findings, severity levels, explanations, and scores
- Short message excerpts used as evidence in a report
- Pattern-matching data associated with a saved baseline
- Technical identifiers and processing status needed to manage an analysis
Completed results are also stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud database. Contextly uses this information to restore reports and support baseline comparisons across your devices.
Contextly’s processing queue handles the submitted message batches while analysis is underway. After processing completes, the queue removes those batches. Report excerpts and baseline data may remain in the saved analysis until you delete it.
AI processing
Contextly sends prepared conversation messages to OpenAI for analysis and, where needed, to create comparison data. Contextly’s API requests disable response storage where supported. OpenAI says API data is not used to train its models by default. Its standard abuse-monitoring logs may retain API content for up to 30 days unless stricter retention controls apply to the API account. OpenAI API data controls
Other service providers
Contextly uses service providers to operate the app:
- Apple iCloud / CloudKit syncs completed results to your private iCloud database.
- OpenAI provides AI processing for prepared conversation content.
- RevenueCat helps manage subscription status using anonymous app identifiers and purchase information.
- Contextly’s hosting and storage providers process data needed to run the analysis service and store reports and baseline-matching data.
These providers process information to provide their services to Contextly. Apple and RevenueCat may also handle purchase and subscription information under their own privacy policies. RevenueCat notes that purchase history is processed to provide subscription functionality and related analytics. RevenueCat’s Apple privacy guidance
Subscription and technical information
Contextly does not require you to create an account with a name or email address to analyze a conversation. The app uses anonymous installation and security identifiers to protect requests and associate them with subscription access.
Apple and RevenueCat process information needed to verify purchases and manage subscriptions. Contextly may also process technical information such as app version, request status, and error details to operate and secure the service.
How we use information
Contextly uses information to:
- Analyze conversations and generate reports
- Show and sync saved reports
- Compare new analyses with a baseline you saved
- Verify subscription access
- Protect the service, troubleshoot errors, and prevent misuse
- Respond to privacy or support requests
Contextly does not sell conversation content or use it for advertising.
Retention and deletion
Saved analysis results and baseline-matching data remain in Contextly’s service and your private iCloud database until you delete the analysis.
Use Delete & Forget in the app to remove the saved result and request deletion of associated server-side report and baseline data. Contextly also keeps a minimal deletion record to prevent deleted analyses from being recreated and to confirm cleanup; this record does not contain the conversation text. OpenAI’s separate retention of API data is described above.
Subscription providers may retain purchase records as needed to manage transactions, meet legal obligations, and provide their services.
Security
Contextly uses safeguards such as encrypted connections, app installation verification, and protected processing queues. No method of sending or storing information can be guaranteed completely secure.
Children’s privacy
Contextly is not designed for children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us using the details below.
Your choices and privacy requests
You can choose which conversation to analyze and which baselines to save. You can delete saved analyses in the app using Delete & Forget.
Privacy rights vary by location. We will respond to requests as required by applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Contextly’s features or data practices change. We will update the effective date above and provide notice in the app when appropriate.
